This book soundtrack is a first of a kind scholarly musical project envisioned by Sowande' Mustakeem. Raw and organic in every collective musical way, the 12 track series features drumming and/or vocals from Mustakeem, her percussion band Amalghemy, and the STL Community Drum. Far from a mere "playlist" each track mirrors the feelings, vibrations, and imagination forged in the book, Slavery at Sea. This first of a kind music collage steps beyond the normal mode of music, memory, and the making of history by bridging the written/published word with the musical world through a series of sonic meditation through percussion drumming. The tracks - integrating both African drums and the bandkit - serve as both a sound healing and awakening through the compilation of tracks. Channeled and selected to musically mirror the history that the monograph Slavery at Sea: Terror, Sex, and Sickness in the Middle Passage provides readers (*and now for the first time with a book soundtrack*) to likewise broaden the listening audience.
